Heyyyy!! |
Money is already hard enough when you're dealing with YOUR OWN, now imagine bringing a whole other human into the mix 😭 |
Different incomes. Different spending habits. Different debt. Different ideas of what “expensive” even means. |
It gets complicated QUICK. |
This stat probably won’t surprise you much, but 7 out of 10 couples say money causes trouble in their relationship. |
So whether you're married, dating, or single (yes… single. I need you to catch this early)... |
Here are 5 things couples get WRONG about money. |
1. You Never Talk About It |
It’s really easy to avoid talking about money with your partner, but it’s also really hard to be in a relationship where you resent the other person. So let’s pls wake the hell up and fix this. |
The fix: Have a 15-minute money date once a month. |
What came in? What are we paying off? What are we saving for? Anything big coming up?
|
That’s it. Grab coffee, order food. Sit down and talk about it like adults. It’ll suck at first, but just like losing weight, it will get better if you keep at it ❤️ |
2. You Compare Your Relationship to Instagram |
This one is so stupid, but it’s common. |
You see couples traveling, buying new cars, eating at rooftop restaurants, and then you look at your partner eating pizza on the couch and think... “What the f*ck are we doing?” 😭 |
NO!!! |
You have no idea what's happening behind that post. The vacation could be on a credit card. The car could have a $1,400 payment. You never know.
And plus… eating pizza on the couch is awesome. If you got an extra slice, slide me one. |
The fix: Stop measuring your relationship by what it looks like and start measuring it by what you're building together. |
Stop trying to look rich. At the end of the day, nobody gives a shit ❤️ |
3. You Hide Money From Each Other |
If you have to hide it, delete it, or lie about how much it cost... we have a problem 😣 |
“Don't tell her how much this cost.” “I'll pay the card off before he notices.” “Let me bring this inside before she gets home.” |
Even with separate accounts, you shouldn't be scared for your partner to know what's happening with your money. |
You're partners, not a parent and a child. |
The fix: Set a number together. Maybe it's $100, maybe it's $500. Anything over that? Talk about it before you buy it. Under that? You're both adults. Do your thing. |
4. One Person Handles EVERYTHING |
I see this ALL THE TIME. One person knows the bills, savings, debt and the other just asks… “Are we good?” 😭 |
It’s totally fine if one person handles most of the finances, BUT there’s a difference between handling the money and being the ONLY person who understands it. |
The fix: You don't have to split everything 50/50, but you should both know what's going on. You're a team. Act like one. ❤️ |
5. Parenting Tip: Stop making money a scary topic for your kids |
This one really hurts to see because WHY THE HELL are we not talking about money with our kids!!! 🤬 |
Cause you're SCARED?? ASHAMED??? Awesome!!! |
That means you have the opportunity of a LIFETIME to teach your kids how to avoid making the same mistakes you made!! |
And I left this one for last on purpose because you can't get here if you haven't done the first 4 things on this list. |
If money is scary, secretive, or constantly causing fights in your relationship... what are your kids learning from that? How can you pass on anything to your kids? |
Like I said earlier, we live in a VERY WEIRD time. Money needs to be talked about earlier. Maybe nobody talked about money in your house growing up. |
You get to change that in yours ❤️ |

What Would Stack and Penny Do? |
Stack and Penny would start with the bank 🦥 |
Obviously, getting into a money conversation about debt can get scary SUPER quick, so they wouldn't start with debt, credit cards, or every bad decision you've ever made 😭 |
They’d start simple: Where are we keeping our money? Is our bank giving us any benefit? |
If not, that's an easy win you can tackle together. |

Start small. The bigger conversations will come. ❤️ |
Go be Responsible AdultS 😉❤️ |
